S2, Ep. 10: KB Brookins: Black, Queer, Trans Poet
Austinites should be immensely proud to share space with KB Brookins. This reserved yet expressive being is a bonafide bard — the prize-winning author of several books of poetry and a 2023 National Endowment of the Arts fellow. KB's commentary on everything from gentrification to climate change is rife with a wisdom which seems to exceed their earthly years, while their poetry addressing identity and observation of self resonates with uncommon purity and depth. As a member of Austin's Black, queer, trans community, KB strives to empower those who may struggle with their individuality and the very traits which make them so uniquely, gorgeously human. What KB offers readers is so much more than literature. In today’s charged environment, it’s quite possibly a lifeline.
